In January 2017, Alex documented the chaotic journey down Lake Tanganikya on the world's oldest passenger ferry, traveling from Kigoma, Tanzania, to Mpulungu, Zambia aboard the MV Liemba for Vice Magazine. The Liemba was first built in Germany, then shipped to Tanzania in over 5,000 separate crates to be assembled on the shores of Lake Tanganikya. The Liemba fought in WWI, was sunk, resurrected, ferried refugees during the Zaire crisis as well as Burundi unrest, and now serves as a ferry moving goods and people along the world's second largest lake.
